LEARNING IS A JOURNEY - NOT A RACE!!

 Music week -  18th - 22nd June 2007

Music week is another enjoyable week in the school year with plenty of audience participation and noise (some easy on the ears and some less so!)  We are particularly grateful to the parents who gave up their time to show us their talents - their children were definitely proud of them!

Monday

Alan Roberts brought a huge array of percussion instruments to our hall and entertained us before allowing  the children to have a go.  A whole school session was followed by smaller workshops in year groups - ensuring everyone has a turn.

Wednesday

Mr and Mrs Brown came in with their  Jazz Quartet and introduced us to the saxophone, the drums, the electric guitar and the electric keyboard.  They explained how the instruments made sound and then played a variety of music - followed by a question and answer session.

Thursday

Mrs Morris (piano), Mrs Barnitt (violin) and Mrs Graham (singing), with Mr Morris in charge of the graphics, led the whole school in a singing session.  They used a prop box to give clues to the songs - all familiar from films or musicals.  It was lovely to hear the whole school sing - from the youngest child to the oldest adult!

Friday

'Travelling by Tuba' are familiar visitors to our school and Stewart and Chris took us on a musical journey through time and around the world.

Chris is showing us how a child's head easily fits into the 'bell' of the tuba.  Don't  worry no child was harmed during the show! And Thomas was the envy of all his friends!!

The first musical instrument was the conch shell (about 10,000 years ago).  We discovered why the tuba is a coiled tube when it was compared to a very long hosepipe- needing 8 children to hold it!!

Mrs Wood was named as the person responsible for not allowing Stewart and Chris to bring Dobbin (their all-singing and dancing Shetland pony) to school.  Even the Year Two pupils looked expectantly at the door!

Poor Mrs Wood spent the rest of the day having to explain her reasons - she didn't want to clear up after Dobbin - of course!

Stewart is playing an early silver hunting horn.

Stewart and Chris also held workshops, where every child had the opportunity to be part of a year group 'band'.
