LEARNING  IS  A  JOURNEY  -  NOT  A  RACE ! ! !

Although fronted by the busy A355, the school grounds are an attractive area for the children to play in.  The grounds are on the edge of Burnham Beeches and lessons and assemblies are often interrupted by the animals and birds that live in the woods.

The animals include : grey squirrels, munjac deer, foxes, rabbits

Some of the birds that can be seen include : pheasants, woodpeckers, jays, magpies, blackbirds, thrushes, robins, blue tits

The playground area provides a variety of activities for the children :

the climbing frames

a circle garden (for those quiet moments!)

under the trees, which provides valuable shade from both sun and light rain

Other activities include : ball games - football and basket ball, a wooden train,a paved area for jumbo draughts,  hopscotch, a number snake, concentric circles, points of the compass.

At lunchtimes, trained Year 2 playleaders help the younger children to learn different games.  There is a different box for each day to ensure a variety of games and activities.

A sensory path was opened in February 2000.

The path is made up of different textured surfaces.

An area of seating has been developed with enough seats for a whole class to sit and work with their teacher.

Piles of old wooden logs have been used to provide habitats for mini-beasts.

These wooden chimes develop the sense of hearing as the different lengths create a different sound.

A herb garden bed has been planted outside Oak classroom so that the children can experience a variety of scents.
