The school catchment area
The school serves the area of Farnham Common village to Spring Lane in the south and Green Lane in the west and the village of Hedgerley.
School hours
School begins at 9.00 a.m. and ends at 3.00p.m. with a break from 10.30a.m. to 10.45 a.m. The lunch break is from 12.00 midday to 1.00 p.m.
Children should not be on the premises unattended before 8.50 a.m., but they may come into school between 8.50 a.m. and 9.00 a.m.
Children arriving after 9.00 a.m. are considered to be late and will have to be signed in at the office on arrival.
Clothes
School uniform is optional but is worn by the majority of the children.
Red or grey sweatshirts and red or white T-shirts and polo shirts with the school logo can be ordered for indoor wear.
Red or grey fleeces are available for outdoor wear.
Alternately red, grey and white clothes, appropriate for the weather are generally worn.
For physical education, a bag with shorts and T-shirt and plimsolls is essential.
All clothes must be named.
Indoor shoes are required and parents who do not wish their children to wear plimsolls must provide suitable indoor shoes.
Forms for ordering uniform can be found on the notice-board in the entrance hall.
Jewellery must not be worn as they can be a hazard and can be easily lost.
Book bags are optional, although most pupils have them and can be purchased from the school.
School meals:
Pupils need a packed lunch with drinks in safe containers. Sweets and fizzy drinks should not be included.
Classes have their lunch on a rota system and each class has a midday supervisor allocated to them, who supervises the eating of the packed lunches and the playtime in the playground.
The children may bring fruit to have as a snack at playtime. Two drinking fountains are available for playtime drinks or children may bring in an additional drink in a named container. The school is currently trying out a scheme where parents can purchase small cartons of milk.
Medicines :
If children need medicines either on a short-term basis on longer term (inhalers etc), parents must sign a consent form and hand the medicine (clearly named) to a member of staff.
Absences:
Parents must inform the school in writing of any absences due to illness, visits to the doctor or dentist or for any other reason. Unexplained absences or inappropriate ones will be counted as unauthorised and may be followed up by the
Education Authority.
Holidays should not be taken in school time. Government regulations require permission has to be sought at least 4 weeks before a holiday if it is unavoidable and has to be taken in school time. A form must be obtained from the school office. This holiday must not exceed two weeks in any one academic year.
Transfer at the age of 7
The school has close links with Farnham Common Junior School, which serves the same area. Parents will receive full information regarding the transfer arrangements in their child's final year, when they will be invited to accept a place at their local school or express a preference for an alternative school.
Arrangements are made for children transferring to Farnham Common Junior School to visit the school and to meet the teachers in the term before they leave us.
