What are we doing to encourage us to further develop as an eco-friendly school?

Recycling

  • We are always looking for ways to increase our recycling.
  • We recycle paper and cardboard
  • We are waiting for the arrival of our 'green bin' to recycle food waste
  • The Friends organised a 'black bag' day - to encourage 'recycing' of good unwanted clothes (and raise school funds)

Saving energy

  • continue to encourage energy awareness by turning off lights and taps
  • we are currently investigating the cost of installing more energy efficient 'push' taps

Transport

  • continue with the 'Going for Gold' scheme  to encourage walking to school

  • Footsteps training for Key Stage 1 pupils to develop road safety awareness

Healthy lifestyle

  • We already have Healthy School status
  • We have a 'get Healthy ' week to promote a balanced diet and physical activity
  • We only have fruit and vegetables for playtime snacks
  • Parents can order milk for a playtime drink
  • We're part of the 5-a-day scheme by having fruit/ vegetables delivered
  • We have achieved the Active mark
  • Signposting Physical activities outside school hours

Developing the school grounds to encourage more wildlife

  • We plan to encourage more wildlife by planting flowers etc to encourage birds and insects
  • The children put fruit waste into a greenbin in the playground -  and aren't the squirrels grateful!
  • We keep our school grounds litter free so that the deer, squirrels and birds are not harmed
  • We are also looking to replace the old bird boxes to encourage nesting

Growing vegetables/ plants

  • To continue with the Y2 growing club to raise awareness of where food comes from

  • To continue to take opportuniies to grow flowers/ plants to develop our school environment
