LEARNING IS A JOURNEY - NOT A RACE!!

Book Week - Autumn

BOOK WEEK (8th- 12th October 2007)

This is a week when we look at a variety of books, as well as having visitors in school, who bring books alive.

Our visitors, this year were:

  • Katy Cawkwell, a storyteller, who told stories to each age group
  • Coral Rumble took each age group for poetry workshops
  • 'The Selfish crocodile' was presented by the 'Blunderbus' theatre group  and kept the whole school entertained on Thursday morning.

The Selfish Crocodile didn't want to share his river with the other animals.

In the workshops, the children were shown how the puppets and the 'heads' were made and worked.

On the Friday, children were able to either bring in thier favourite book or dress as a storybook character.  Pirates and Snow Whites sat side by side in the classrooms.  The costumes were then displayed in a special assembly.

The staff each wore a letter, which the children had to rearrange to find out the names of story characters - Biff, Chip and Kipper.

The Early Years assembly was led by one of the 3 little pigs, but all the staff dressed up - there were 2 Elmers, Spot the dog, the Jolly Postman and a Hungry caterpillar.

There was also a Book Fair in school for the week, which provided parents and children the opportunity to look at different books and any sales raised funds for the school.
