The nursery class provides children with part-time education for two terms, starting the term after a child's fourth birthday.

The aim of the nursery is to create an atmosphere where your children can feel relaxed and secure, have fun and build upon the many learning processes that will have begun at home and at playgroup.

The requirements of the Foundation Stage Curriculum will be covered by mini-topics and a variety of planned activities.  This will be broken down into stepping stones and Early Learning Goals.

The six Areas of  Learning for the Foundation Stage are :

  • Language, literacy and communication
  • Mathematical development
  • Personal,social and emotional development
  • Creative development
  • Physical development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Whilst in the nursery class your child will be monitored on :

  • fine and gross motor control
  • visual and auditory perception
  • language and communication skills
  • learning and memory
  • emotional and social skills
  • early mathematical concepts
  • creative expression

This evaluation enables us to plan specific activiities to help develop your child, to identify any areas of concern and highlight particular apptiudes.

The children will be reassessed in the Reception class.

We believe that education is best achieved where there is partnership between parents and teachers.  We welcome parental support and involvement and will deal promply with any questions, comments or concerns.

The nursery class is part of the whole school organisation.  During their time in the nursery class the children will become familiar with the whole school surroundings and will join in all events appropriate to them.  This will ensure a smooth transition into the Reception Class.
