10th January, 2008

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to you all.  Welcome to those families just joining the school in both Chestnut and Acorn class.  Please do ask a member of staff or myself if you are unsure about anything.  I am sure we will all soon be settled into school routines.

VISIT BY A THEATRE GROUP – FRIDAY, 18TH JANUARY

The Friends of the School have organised for The Bangers and Mash Theatre Company to present George and the Dragon to the children on Friday, 18th.  On this Friday, children should be collected at 4 p.m. and not 3 p.m.  At the end of the school day the children will enjoy a drink and a biscuit before being entertained with the play.  We will assume all children will stay and if they are not staying, please let me know in writing that they will be collected at 3 p.m. as usual.  Acorn and Chestnut children are welcome to return to school at 2.50 p.m.  Please speak to Mrs. Rooney or Miss Williamson.  Please pay a contribution of £1 towards the costs.  Children should give the money to their teacher on the Friday morning.  Please put the money in a named envelope.

WALKING TO SCHOOL AND FROM SCHOOL

These initiatives – ‘Walking home from school on Wednesday’ and ‘Walking to school on Friday’, will start again on Wednesday, 23rd January.  We would like to encourage you to walk with your children on these and other days to develop road sense, healthy children and improve the environment.

‘Slapits’ – fluorescent armbands, are for sale through the office for £1, to help improve visibility on these gloomy mornings and evenings.

FOOTSTEPS TRAINING

Footsteps training for Year 2 will continue this term.  Training has been organised for the Footsteps volunteers on Tuesday, 29th January.  More volunteers are still needed.  Please speak to Julie Smith, Sarah-Lynn Spruzen, Penny McPhillips or myself if you able to be a volunteer.  It is a time commitment of 4 to 6 mornings or afternoons a term.

ILLNESS

Please do not send your child to school if they are ill.  We want to keep everyone in school as healthy as possible.  Generally children need 24 hours at home to recover from feeling unwell, but please make sure they have at least 24 hours at home after the end of any symptoms of sickness or diarrhoea.

Please remember to send a note with your child on the first day they return to school, explaining the absence.  Please do not telephone the school to say your child will be absent unless they are away more than a couple of days, in which case please ring after 10 a.m.  Thanks.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

Please remember that holidays must not be taken during term time.  Permission must be applied for on the appropriate form well in advance if days away from school are required.
