ACORN NURSERY

NEWSLETTER

14th January, 2008

Dear Parents,

I would like to give a very special welcome to all our new children who are already settling in well and have made an excellent start.

Many of the children are now feeling confident to say goodbye to mum or dad at the door and are happy to come into Nursery on their own.  We would like to encourage this to develop their independence.  Members of staff will always be on hand to give assistance to any of the children who may need help putting on their indoor shoes.   If you wish to speak to a member of staff for any reason, please feel welcome to still do so before the beginning or end of the Nursery session.

I would like to give you some dates and information regarding this term.

As part of their topic work this term on “All About Me”,  we would like all the children, if

if possible to bring in a photo of themselves as a baby.

These will be displayed in the classroom to see if the children can recognise their friends, and then stuck in their own special booklet (unless you would prefer them not to be), for the children to bring home at the end of term.   Please put named photos in an envelope and hand them to myself or another member of staff.

FRIDAY SESSIONS

On two Fridays each term, instead of the children coming out to you, we invite you in to the Nursery to collect your child and to have the opportunity to see their work and look at their models wall displays and photographs.  Please remember that the pieces of work you see are only a fraction of what your child does, as many of the activities are practical and therefore not always recordable.  The dates for this term are 8th February and 14th March.

LIBRARY

The children will bring a library book home each Monday.  They choose this themselves and it is for you to read together, to encourage a love of books.  Please try to return it each Monday so that it can be exchanged for a new one.

SHOW AND TELL

We encourage the children to bring things in to show, especially things that relate to our theme or letter of the week.  We give each child a specific day of the week to bring something in, which hopefully will mean that they all get a fair opportunity to be involved.  This is such a valuable way to develop their expressive skills and confidence, and listening skills when others are speaking.  Show and tell will start Monday, 21st January.  Please note your child’s special day from the list below.

MUSIC LESSONS

A specialist Music teacher comes in once a fortnight to give the children group music lessons.  They all thoroughly enjoy this and we all have great fun together.  Lessons take place every other Monday.

PARENT HELPERS

It is always helpful to have extra adults, especially for the first hour and a half to play board games or help with puzzles or construction.  If you would like to help, on a regular or an occasional basis, please speak to a member of staff or sign up on the parents’ rota in the cloakroom, which will start from Monday, 21st January.

If you have any questions about any of the above, or any other matter, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or any of the Nursery staff.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. J. Rooney,

Nursery Supervisor.
