ACORN NEWSLETTER

NEWSLETTER

14th September, 2007

Dear Parents,

I would like to give a very special welcome to all our new children, who are already settling in well and have made an excellent start. Our older children are helping them to settle in and they are all making new friends. Many of the children are now feeling confident to say goodbye to mum or dad at the door and are happy to come into nursery on their own - we would like to encourage this to develop their independence. Members of staff will always be on hand to give assistance to any of the children who may require help putting on their indoor shoes. If you wish to speak to a member of staff for any reason, please feel welcome to still do so before the beginning or end of the nursery session.

This term our theme is 'On the Farm', until half-term, then we will be looking at
'Autumn' and 'Christmas'.

OUTDOOR PLAY

We are very fortunate in the nursery to have our own safe play area which the children use each day. We would like to make good use of this on dry mornings by taking suitable activities outside. Every child will have the opportunity to take part in these activities, but as the days will soon start to get cooler, your child will need a warm coat each day.

FRIDAY SESSIONS

On Friday 28th September, Friday 2nd November and Friday 23rd November, instead of the children coming out to you, we invite you in to the nursery to collect your child and to have the opportunity to see their work and look at their models and wall displays. Please remember that the pieces of work you see are only a fraction of what your child does, as many of the activities are practical and therefore not always recordable.

SHOW AND TELL

We encourage the children to bring things in to show, especially things that relate to our theme or letter of the week. We give each child a specific day of the week to bring something in, which hopefully will mean that they all get a fair opportunity to be involved. This is such a valuable way to develop their expressive skills and confidence, and listening skills when others are speaking.

Please note your child's special day from the list below:-

Monday----Tuesday--- Wednesday--- Thursday-----Friday
Thomas----Georgia--- Billy-------------Musa---------Benjamin
Samantha--Max------- Nicholas--------Brooke-------Finlay
Jessie------Tyler-------Charlie---------Amelie-------Isobel
Rohan------Millie-Jo--- Lucy------------Shaya

LIBRARY

The children will bring a library book home each Monday. They choose this themselves and it is for you to read together, to encourage a love of books. Please try to return it each Monday so that it can be exchanged for a new one.

PARENT HELPERS

It is always helpful to have extra adults, especially for the first hour and a half, to play board games or help with puzzles or construction. If you would like to help, on a regular or an occasional basis, please speak to a member of staff or sign up on the parent's rota in the cloakroom, which will start from Monday, 17th September.

MUSIC LESSONS

A specialist Music teacher comes in once a fortnight to give the children group music lessons. They all thoroughly enjoy this and we all have great fun together. Lessons take place every other Monday.

SCHOOL LETTERS

Throughout the term the children will bring home letters with information that may not always apply to the nursery. Even so, we feel it is important for all parents to be kept informed of all events taking place in the school. If you have any questions about any of the above, or any other matter, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or any of the nursery staff.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. J. Rooney,
Nursery Supervisor.
