Welcome

A warm welcome to all the new children and their parents who are joining the school this term. I hope you all settle in quickly and enjoy the time you spend here. Welcome back everyone else, I hope you all had a great summer holiday.

New Headteacher

I am thrilled to be your new headteacher and am honoured to take up this position. I come here from Castleview   School in Slough where I was the deputy headteacher. My teaching experience is in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 Years and I have taught all age groups from Nursery to Year 2. I strongly believe all children deserve outstanding education and look forward to working with both staff and parents to build on the school’s strengths.

Music Lessons

Following Mrs Coleman’s retirement, Ali Morris (Harry’s Mum) will be leading music sessions in school. We look forward to singing and making lots of lovely music together.

Harvest Festival

The children will soon be practising poems, songs and stories to perform in the Harvest Festival Assembly which will take place in the school hall on Thursday 1st October. Children will be invited to bring in fruit, vegetables, flowers, packets and tins of food which will be sold after school to raise funds for the charity ‘Food for the hungry.’ Parents are welcome to join us in our celebrations. If you are able to help organise and sell the harvest produce please speak to Mrs Wood. More details will follow.

End of the Day

Developing the School Grounds

We are in the process of putting together some ideas to develop the school grounds to enhance the learning opportunities for the children. Initially we are considering developing a shallow school pond for pond dipping and building a sandpit for the reception garden. Would you be able to help us source some of the materials we might need?

Reception Meeting

There will be a meeting at school for all the parents of children in Beech class at on Monday 14th September.

Friends of the School AGM and ‘meet the teacher’

On Tuesday 15th September at the Friends will be holding their AGM. All parents automatically become Friends of the School when their children join the school. This is a great opportunity to find out about the forthcoming activities, your support will be most appreciated. You can find out more about the Friends on the school website. After the meeting there is a chance for you to meet your child’s new teacher to discuss general issues such as classroom routines. Acorn staff will not be available on this evening.

Bag to School

I hope you have been busy clearing out at home to fill your ‘bag to school’. If you wish to support this useful fund raising venture please note the bags are due back for collection in the school car park on Monday the 21st September.

School Photographer

The photographer will be in school on the 5th October to take individual photographs, with family photographs after school. More details to follow.

School Prospectus

We are in the process of updating our school prospectus to send out to all new prospective parents. I would like to say a big thank you to Kate Morgan (Amelie and Finlay’s Mum) for all her help in making the changes.

Change of INSET dates.

There is a change to the published INSET days. There is now an INSET day on Monday 8th February 2010 replacing the previously published date April 23rd. I apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

Parent’s Evenings

There will be a new Autumn parent’s evening this term where you will be able to make an appointment to meet your new teacher. Dates and details will follow. If you have any concerns you are welcome to make an appointment to see your class teacher during Thursday morning assembly (9.15 to 9.45). To make an appointment you will need to sign the timetable in the entrance. Each session is now restricted to 2 appointments only. If you have a pressing concern please speak to your class teacher to make an after school appointment.

Going for Gold Scheme

This scheme which encourages children to walk to school will start again on the Monday 21st September. We are looking for some parent volunteers to help stamp cards in the mornings, if you are able to help please let Sarah-Lynn (Isobel’s Mum) or me know. New children to the school will receive their cards and details of the scheme shortly.
