Homestudy

HOMESTUDY
Most of your chjld?s formal learning will take place in school. Our wish is that they should listen, concentrate and apply themselves to all their tasks in school. Out of school, there will be many other important activities for them to undertake and enjoy.

Each week, however, they will be expected to complete some tasks at home under your guidance and we would ask for your co-operation in this mailer. We would urge you to preserve a sense of humour when helping your child. The tasks and time spent together should be enjoyable for both of you. Back to top
IN RECEPTION AND YEAR ONE
~ Children should read every night either from their school reading book or from another book.

~ Each week the children will have four words to learn to recognise. These will be tested in school at the end of the week and again later in the term to make sure the children are still able to recognise them.

~ On Friday each child will bring home a new Library book provided they have brought back the book borrowed the previous week. Please share the Library book with them.

~ Occasionally children may be asked to do an additional piece of work at home.

Please spend twenty minutes each night on these activities. Back to top
YEAR TWO
~ Children should read every night, either from their school reading book or another book. Some children will now be competent readers and will need to have their reading material broadened to include information books, stories with chapters, etc.

~ Each week the children will continue to have four words to learn to recognise or will have to look up the 4 words in a dictionary to find out the meaning of the word.

~ Each week the children will have four words to learn to spell. There will also be an additional topic spelling list for those getting on more quickly with spelling.

~ Once a week the children will bring home another activity to complete at home. This may be a worksheet consolidating any activity learnt in school or it may be finding out information.

~ On Friday each child will bring home a new Library book to share with you provided they have brought back the book borrowed the previous week.

Please spend thirty minutes a night on these activities. Back to top
